Hadoop on System z offered as solution to traditional ETL and proliferating copies of data
Santa Clara, CA (April 9, 2014) — Veristorm today highlighted their inclusion in IBM’s April 8th Mainframe50 event. On the date of the IBM mainframe computer’s 50th anniversary, IBM announced innovative new offerings in the areas of mobile, storage and Hadoop.
Tom Rosamilia, Senior Vice President of IBM Systems and Technology Group and IBM Integrated Supply Chain, set the stage, saying, “If we think about analytics, we want to be able to get to real-time data. … I will tell you one this is for sure, no matter what platform you choose, you want your compute capacity and your data to be co-resident because you’re going to get at that data often. The only way to do this is to make sure you’ve got the process capacity and the data in the same place.”
Veristorm’s vStorm Enterprise product makes it easy for users to access z/OS mainframe server data and make it available in Hadoop for big data analytics.
Tom continued, “The first big announcement is Hadoop for Linux on [System] z… Now we’re going to be able to do Hadoop on z Linux. Veristorm partnership, Veristorm’s here today with us, they’re making this available on zDoop…”
The presentation described the challenges of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, the processing and management costs of managing multiple copies of enterprise data, and the need for more real-time access.
Sanjay Mazumder, founder and CEO of Veristorm, said “We’ve been excited to work closely with IBM in bringing Veristorm Enterprise to customers. We think the combination of drag-and-drop access to enterprise data from Hadoop, and Hadoop on Linux for z, is a clear advantage for faster processing and analytics.”
